My Los Angeles Trip - Day 1

overshoulder
I woke up at 6:30am and still barely had time to pack, then of course traffic took forever so I just made it to the airport by 9am for my 10:41am flight. Customs, which is the main source of my pre-trip stress, was a breeze. There was a seven month old baby with both parents in the row of seats ahead of me, but the little girl was cooing and singing and sleeping the whole way, so nary a problem there. The dad was so proud of his little girl; it was sweet to witness. Once in L.A., the cab trip that I was assured would only cost $35 ended up costing me $75 with tip. The hotel is fine with a good layout for our purpose, and the restaurant has passable food, thank goodness. I was conned into playing in my first ever poker (Texas Hold 'Em) tournament ever tonight! I was afraid it would be really intimidating, but I had a lot of fun! I stayed in play until the last table, and I went all in against another girl (4 out of 10 players at our table were female). We both had straights, but she had a high ace, so I was out. It was hella fun, though! I'll have to try that again sometime! Ready for the photo diary? Here we go! :)

A final look at the chaos that is my living room.

Tired Elli got through Customs!

Arrived in LA in the Crazy Taxi!

Lunch of champions!

Someone explain why the seats are blocked off even to the floor and what this little vent hole is for?

Welcome to LA!

Elli's hotel room - cozy, but fancy in a way.

I'm ready to check out who's here!

Should I? Why the heck not! (Spot the typo, Bueller)

Hey, this ain't so bad! I might be getting the hang of this poker thang!

A tired but happy Elli returns to her room at 1am for bed time!

You look wonderful. As for the typo, it's spelled liquor or liqueur according to Microsoft Word, so given two possibilities they still got it wrong. I hope the rest of your trip goes well.

It's funny; I think most U.S. citizens think Customs would be more or less a formality coming from Canada, but there's no real reason why it would be different from anywhere else.

Where was the seat with the vent hole?

Ah, at Customs, if they think you are working in the US without a proper visa, they just turn you back out of hand. So you are allowed to go to a trade show, but only for specific reasons.

The seat with the vent was in the back of the taxi!

I must have missed that you were going to an L.A. porn convention.

The typo... ligueur. And, actually, they meant liguor, unless all of the liguor was liqueur... syrupy liquor.

Kind of a tired old pun.

So... hope the convention goes well. I have a notion that porn convetions are probably more tame than Kiwanis or Elk conventions.

Have fun and do whatever gets done at a convention.

Nah, we asked the guy who made the sign, and he said it was a pun on "lick her" but I maintain that that is bull and nobody spellchecked it. :)

Hope you have a pleasant stay down in my neck of the woods... sorry for the unseasonably warm weather. :)

You're so hot, Elli, that the whole of southern California warmed up when you arrived. ;)

If that seat was in the taxi it was to protect the driver - it is amazing what people go through to rob them. The vent is likely for a speaker. Sometimes taxis have prerecoded messages like "buckle up for safety" etc.

I've heard the recorded messages in the Las Vegas taxis before, but never such security. It made me think of the taxi scene in Heavy Metal.

I am, in fact, a taxi driver! I'm an owner-operator in Kelowna though -- we don't have shields in our taxis. Personally, i don't support the use of shields, but i won't get into my boring opinions on that here...

My guess is that the shield extends towards the floor to protect the driver from knife attacks through the seat-backs, and benefits of extending it to the floor would be to keep your belongings from rolling forward, the driver's belongings from rolling back, smoke devices or fireworks from being tossed up front, or preventing people from reaching forward and grabbing a driver's legs. And the vent is probably most likely for heat and air/conditioning to the back seat.

Have fun down there ... and good luck!

Oh yeah, and another thing -- it's really cool to see Elli-As-Normal-Girl photos!

Ahhh thank you for the explanation! That does make sense! It's just kinda sad that those measures are neccessary.

hehe I was really nervous at first about posting the normal girl photos, but now I enjoy it!

Even in a small town like Kelowna, there are some really despicable people. To alleviate my personal stress, i haven't worked nights for nearly two years now, and even at that, i mostly work from the airport where my passengers have all been pre-screened for me! ; )

Why would you be nervous about posting normal-girl photos? Most people would be far more nervous about posting those other kinds of photos!

Well, it's easy to do the naked photos. But to show how I walk around every day, just being normal - that's not putting on a show or a persona. That's showing who you really are. A little more intimate than the erotica stuff. :)

Hmmm ... interesting. I guess i see your point.

I wonder what that says about me for particularly liking the jeans-and-a-t-shirt look...
